I wrestle with living in tune with history as well as staying sensitive to the needs and dreams of the future. My craft uses ancient technology and expresses an intrigue with body ornamentation with its spiritual and mystical associations. Looking toward the future, I am highly sensitive to the environmental impact of jewelry production. I use simple hand tools and recycled materials.
A successful design suggests motion, reveals unique aspects from different angles, and expresses elegance and grace in asymmetry. Use of gemstones and differently colored golds provides accent and color contrast.
I have been making art since childhood and began creating jewelry in 1975. Direct metal techniques such as cold forging, hand-forming, texturing, and gold soldering are the methods used to construct the jewelry. The techniques are labor-intensive, and the finished work is detailed and meticulous.
